Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Stated 'First Edition: October 2010.' Also Number Line to 1. Flat-signed and dated on the second front end paper by Keith Richards (see photo). Both the book and the dust jacket are in excellent shape. You can see the covers of the book in the photos. They are exceptionally clean. The silver lettering on the front and spine is nicely bright. There is the slightest bit of crinkling at the bottom edge of the spine. The cover edges are in terrific shape, no rubbing at all. That is exactly the case with the four corners. The page edges are exceptionally clean. The book is square and the spine is straight. The binding is very solid from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The interior of the book is in terrific condition. The purple inside covers and end papers are perfectly clean and free of any wear. The same can be said for all of the pages in the book. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any instances of soiling. I'm not finding any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And Keith Richards signature represents the only writing to be found anywhere in the book. There are a number of photographs in both black and white and color. They all appear to be in perfect condition. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. I have had the jacket in a fitted protective cover for as long as I have owned it, which goes back a number of years. The jacket is exceptionally clean. I don't see any soiling. I don't see any toning or fading. There are no tears. The flaps are in excellent condition as well, perfectly clean. I don't see any wear on them, no creasing. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. I don't like to use 'Fine' as a rating because it implies to me perfection. I think some other sellers would be willing to call this book and jacket 'Fine'. Neither has any condition issues that I can see. 'The book was generally well received by critics, with several commenting on the honesty of the work. Charles Spencer of The Daily Telegraph wrote, 'Life offers much more than vicarious thrills. It captures the true spirit of rock and roll, the nitty-gritty of life on the road, and just what it feels like to be a heroin addict who doesn't know where his next fix is coming from. It also movingly captures Richards' extraordinary love of music--an even more powerful addiction for him than smack--and perhaps more surprisingly, his manifest destiny as a human being.' Jim Fusilli of the Wall Street Journal said that 'Mr. Richards writes with disarming introspection about his childhood, family and fame. And it's quite likely that no rock musician has ever written so keenly about the joys of making music. With a warm sense of humor and willingness to share his grief, Mr. Richards in 'Life' defies almost every public perception about him.' In The Independent, John Walsh wrote, 'He tells it with complete, reckless, disclosure. Sometimes it sounds like a man ranting into a tape machine; sometimes, in the tidier and more reflective sections, you can detect the hand of his co-writer, James (White Mischief) Fox. But the watchwords of this book are honesty, confession, telling it straight.' From the New Yorker: 'Half book, half brand extension, it's an entertaining, rambling monologue, a slurry romp through the life of a man who knew every pleasure, denied himself nothing, and never paid the price.' The New York Times said, 'Mr. Richards, now 66, writes with uncommon candor and immediacy. He's decided that he's going to tell it as he remembers it, and helped along with notebooks, letters and a diary he once kept, he remembers almost everything.' 'The popular press focused on the relationship between Jagger and Richards. Tom Bryant in The Daily Mirror wrote, 'Keith says his songwriting partner 'started to become unbearable' in the early 80s, adding: 'I think Mick thinks I belong to him but I haven't been to his dressing room in 20 years.'. Neat pencil marking indicating First Edition/ Issue # on Half Title. Insignificant crimping around edges of wrapper. SIGNED by the author. A lovely copy. Arguably the finest blues-based rhythm guitarist to hit rock-n-roll since his idol Chuck Berry, Keith Richards guitar skills were so obvious that one can underappreciate his tremendous songwriting skills. Of course, Richards is just as legendary for his near-miraculous ability to survive the excesses of the rock and roll lifestyle as he is for his musical prowess. His well-documented consumption of drugs and alcohol would likely have destroyed any other mortal . LIFE is rated as the 3rd Greatest Music Book of All Time by Billboard. A fantastic read.
