Item Description: Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1931, 1931. early printing, hardcover. Fair plus, light sunning & foxing (spotting) on spine, owner bookplate on endpaper, binding weak between some page groupings, mostly neat splits but more ragged/torn between pages 54 & 55. Item Description: Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston and New York, Riverside Press Cambridge, Copyright 1929., 1929. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Blue cloth hardcover with orange diving helmet illustration on front cover, orange lettering on spine. This is approximately 6 x 8 1/4 inches, 245 pages of text, many black and white photo illustrations with one being the frontispiece, a great portrait of Eadie with his facsimile signature on the bottom, and on the reverse of that is the presentation and signature by Eadie written in blue ink: Lt Eddie Towne/Sincerely/Tom Eadie. Apparently the Lt Towne was a crew member, as the illustration after page 104 has some ink notations identifying two of the men, one Luke Daley plus another. Bookplate on front pastedown has the name darkened out, but reading through it I can see Edward A Town (spelled without the e). This has a darkened spine with about an eighth inch of wear and little tears at the spine ends, front cover basically clean and bright with couple tiny light spots, back has a good many small white spots, wear at corner tips, still quite nice looking. Inside is intact, hinges fine, last thirty pages have some sort of dark stain at the margins, could be water long ago, but text is all readable. The long page edges are untrimmed, top edge red now a bit faded. This is a well written account of Eadie's experiences in rescue and salvage, etc. This is in only good condition, but a book well worth preserving for the future. Inscribed by Author(s). Item Description: Houghton Mifflin Company, New York, 1920. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. Bright blue boards with a orange lettering on the spine and an orange diver's helmet on the front cover. The spine of this book is not sunned as the DJ has done its job. Corners are sharp. The very tips have a whitish look, but are not fraying. The end papers are heavily toned with significant foxing on the last couple pages. The paste down at the rear of the book is actually the last page 223. Page 221 has a small tear at the top of the page. The title page and the frontispiece have been exposed to some damp stain along the edges. There is foxing to these from pages and the rear pages with some intermittent foxing on other pages. The stains look to be like remnants of coffee spill. The book contains a card from a Boston Baptist Social with a number on it. On the rear of this card is written in Tom Eadie's hand: "Sincerely, Tom Eadie". The signature matches the flat signed signature under the frontispiece perfectly. Top of text block is colored red. The fore edge and the bottom of the text block is toned. The bottom of the text block pages is slightly uneven. On the spine, there is a small mark maybe 1/4" just under the title appears to be a stray pen mark. Above this mark, there is a light scratch. The DJ covers the book, but has heavily soil and foxing. It appears as though the DJ protected most of the book over the years and from that damp stain. There are chinks missing around the spine and tears along the flap edges. Pictures are available on request. No edition stated. Signed by Author(s). Bookseller Inventory # 002204
