The author, Edward Wagenknecht (1900-2004), was an American literary critic who also wrote on film. He received his PH.D. in 1932 from the University of Washington, where he taught from 1925 to 1943. Attractively bound by the previous owner in full green cloth with gilt titles. Nicely inscribed by the author, with pen notations in the author's hand. Originally issued in green wraps. The front wrap is bound in, the rear wrap appears to have been discarded. The binding has kept the book in fine condition otherwise.
