Boards lightly soiled and rubbed, all edges have some wear, corners worn to board, spine edge chipped and 3/4-inch gouge, endpapers lightly soiled with rear damaged--lower corner missing and jagged closed tear, one leaf has a word underlined and steam from engine colored blue, binding slightly loosened. Has some wear and fading on the front. Front hinge is cracked at the bottom two inches, but is solid otherwise. Previous owner's markings on the front/rear end paper. Pages have some closed tears on the edges and a few pages have some minor paper loss (see pictures for examples). This is along the edge and doesn't go into the text block. A few of the pages have some pencil marks. This is a neat vintage book with nice illustrations.; 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall.

The publisher is scrupulous is pointiing out that this is Watty Piper's retelling of "The Pony Engine" by Mabel C. Bragg. Lois Lenski was a young illustrator when she illustrated this book. Book condition: Very good. Book is bound in red cloth with a illustration of the engine in dark blue. A child has scribbled on the engine on the front endpage. The previous owner conscientiously included a 1953 magazine article with photo of the original author of the story Frances M. Ford, who was unrecognized until after she had died ; however, the article was taped onto the front flyleaf and the tape has stained the page. The rest of the book is in excellent shape. Pages unnumbered. $200.
