About this Item: Platt & Peck: New York (1914), 1914. Thirteen colorful illustrations by Elizabeth Colborne, 7.5 x 5", pale green boards, unpaginated (26pp). Disbound, covers soiled with light pencil scribble, spine torn and missing pieces, title page and foredge have staining, contents have pencil numbers in the corners and scattered soiling else good. According to a September 1914 trade journal "Little People of the Garden" was one of two books issued (the other was "Little People from Mother Goose") in the new series "Book-Making For Children". The books came unassembled: two covers, a group of pages blank on the right and Cory's poetry on the left, twelve attached color illustrations that would be cut out and pasted on the blank pages plus another color illustration with title to be pasted onto the front cover, blunt scissors and paste. The original owner pasted all the illustrations in the book, the one for the cover is pasted onto the blank page opposite the copyright page. The trade journal states that the Colborn illustrations "are beautiful conceptions of bird, flower and vegetable children" and that "any child can make and bind these books". This book-making series proved to be quite popular, when these two books were a window display at F.A.O. Shwartz, the trade journal wrote that it "resulted in the sale of more than two hundred outfits during the dullest season of the year." In spite of their popularity hardly any of the series survived, none with scissors and paste. They are SCARCE in any condition. Sold as is. Seller Inventory # 99-4382
