About this Item: Hutchinson, London, 1956. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Good dj. Illustrated by (dj design) Stein (illustrator). First British Edition. [light shelfwear, spine slightly turned, minor bump to top front corner, light soiling to top of text block; the jacket (second-state, with the original price clipped but the later (12/6) still present) is a little tatty, with small tears and bits of paper loss at most corners, a few small closed tears, some creasing at bottom of front panel, soiling to rear panel]. The novel from which Alfred Hitchcock's VERTIGO -- anointed The Greatest Film of All Time by the British Film Institute's "Sight and Sound" panelists' poll -- was (rather freely) adapted. It's a must-have if you're a "books into film" collector, this being the first English-language publication (preceding the American by a year), and a good deal more economical to add to your collection than either the American edition (Ives Washburn, 1957) or the "true first," a French paperback (Denoël, 1954) entitled "D'entre les morts" (literally "From the Dead").
