"The LOG OF THE DOWNIT is here faithfully reproduced from the original handwritten account Adrian K. Lane kept in a pocket-size, five-and-ten cent store memorandum booklet. . The boy's spelling in the LOG is retained to preserve the charm of the original since phonetic closeness introduces no loss of meaning. . From l July 1931 to 27 April 1935, from 11 to age 13, from Voyage 1 through Voyage 221, young Adrian carefully wrote down his experiences aboard his little boat, a twelve-foot sailing skiff. . Place names may be found on the local navigation chart here used as endplates.
