Contemporary full diced calf, decorative gilt spines with black banding, blue-green speckled edges, drab brown endpapers. A few joints split but sound, marginal worming affecting the first few gatherings in volume III, Engraved vignette titles in volumes I and II, numerous copperplate views and portraits, large folding handcoloured map in volume V, some woodcuts in the text. First edition. "Containing some interesting matter not found elsewhere," says Lowndes, who also states that "the author's real name is Ed. Pugh"; this is presumably the miniature painter and topographer Edward Pugh (c.1763-1813). Mr Hughson/Pugh also published a two volume Walks through London in 1817.
