Item Description: Perigee Book, New York, 2006. Mass Market Paperback. Book Condition: Fine. Fine. 208 pp.  Biographical and critical note by E.L. Epstien. "Lord of the Flies is an allegorical novel by Nobel Prize-winning author William Golding. It discusses how culture created by man fails, using as an example a group of British schoolboys stuck on a deserted island who try to govern themselves, but with disastrous results. Its stances on the already controversial subjects of human nature and individual welfare versus the common good earned it position 68 on the American Library Association's list of the one hundred most frequently challenged books of 1990-1999.[1] In 2005, the novel was chosen by TIME magazine as one of the one hundred best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005. Published in 1954, Lord of the Flies was Golding's first novel, and although it was not a great success at the time--selling fewer than three thousand copies in the United States during 1955 before going out of print--it soon went on to become a bestseller, and by the early 1960s was required reading in many schools and colleges. It was adapted to film in 1963 by Peter Brook, and again in 1990 by Harry Hook. The title is said to be a reference to the Hebrew name of Beelzebub (Ba'al-zvuv, "god of the fly", "host of the fly", or literally "Lord of Flies"), a name sometimes used as a synonym for Satan. The title of the book, in turn, has itself become a metaphor for a power struggle in a chaotic situation." - WikipediaKeywords: WORLD LITERATURE CLASSICS FICTION NOVEL LORD OF THE FLIES WILLIAM GOLDING. Item Description: Faber and Faber, London, 1958. Soft cover. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 1ST EDITION. CONDITION: VERY GOOD. This edition of William Golding's classic novel is a rarity, exceedingly so in the states. As you can see, the covers have retained their gorgeous, bright yellow coloring. The pages are clean and bright, bereft of inscription, the binding tight, and the book relatively unworn. It's only flaw is that the protective plastic which covers the book has been a bit torn along the spine. All in all, this is a one-of-a-kind collectable copy of Lord of the Flies, complete with gorgeously designed covers. Bookseller Inventory # 000049

Item Description: British Lion, 1963. No Binding. Book Condition: Near Fine. Vintage original 40 x 27" (102 x 69") one sheet poster, UK. James Aubrey, Tom Gaman; dir: Peter Brook; British Lion. Very uncommon original British poster for this British film, adapted from William Golding's novel of the same name. Brook took Golding's story, about a bunch of boys stranded on a remote island who gradually revert to various forms of brutality, and he directed it using improvisatory acting techniques and documentary-style camerawork. Original British posters for this British film are extremely scarce, and this is the only one I have ever handled. Bookseller Inventory # wf3215
