About this Item: Allen & Unwin, Australia, 2004. Trade Paperback. Condition: Near Fine. 326 pages. Throughout the extraordinarily successful cinematic journey of Lord of the Rings, Sean Astin plays the reliable, trustworthy Samwise Gamgee, staunch friend and protector to Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood). Uniquely placed to observe the production and uniquely qualified to appreciate its rarity, Sean Astin writes of intriguing insights and information that Lord of the Rings fans won't find anywhere else. Astin draws from his journal, kept during the filming. He talks about the larger-than-life personalities on the set, for example Orlando Bloom, Sir Ian McKellan, Elijah Wood and Peter Jackson, and reveals their clashes and camaraderie. The book also includes 8 pages of fascinating, never-before-seen photos both on and off the sets. A must for all fans of Lord of the Rings! Quantity Available: 1. The story of the creation of the world and of the First Age, this is the ancient drama to which the characters in The Lord of the Rings look back and in whose events some of them, such as Elrond and Galadriel, took part. The three Silmarils were jewels created by Feanor, most gifted of the Elves. Within them was imprisoned the Light of the Two Trees of Valinor before the Trees themselves were destroyed by Morgoth, the first Dark Lord. Thereafter, the unsullied Light of Valinor lived on only in the Silmarils, but they were seized by Morgoth and set in his crown, which was guarded in the impenetrable fortress of Angband in the north of Middle-earth. The Silmarillion is the history of the rebellion of Feanor and his kindred against the gods, their exile from Valinor and return to Middle-earth, and their war, hopeless despite all their heroism, against the great Enemy. --This is the story of the First Age, the ancient drama to which characters in "The Lord of the Rings" look back. Condition: Very Good+ ( see Description ). J R R Tolkien cover Art (illustrator). Later and/or First Printings. ----------4 volumes (ONE SHIPPING PRICE ), in a slipcase, paperback, all are Very Good to Very Good+ copies, a bit of light wear, faint stress lines (not creases) on spines, offered as a slipcased set by the publisher with the title HEROIC TALES (the only JRRT issue with this title), The Hobbit has Tolkien cover art and depicts Smaug asleep on his treasure horde, the other three volumes have Pauline Baynes (uncredited) artwork and are in uniform format and condition, all in a lightly rubbed Very Good slipcase, old price sticker on slipcase, , this is not a UK issue but is a Canadian Methuen issue, looks quite nice overall, all 3 LOTR volumes are later printings ( 8th ) from 1975, Hobbit is a 1st printing and is dated 1976, I suspect that this is the FIRST Issue of this set as The Hobbit is a 1st printing, later issues would have had later printings of The Hobbit ( which I have had in the past and which included Magnum as part of the publisher info [ Methuen/Magnum -not just Methuen ] --), any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo.
