Sound and square binding in green, cloth-covered boards with birds and titles stamped in gold. Some wear to the corners, with front corners lightly bumped. Cloth rubbed and thinning along the edges. Spine title somewhat dulled. The text block edges are dusty and the front edge has an area of grime. Previous owner's name on front free endpaper. Inside pages are generally clean and unmarked, with light age toning and a few tiny margin marks. Dustjacket has paper loss along the top edge and head of spine. Bottom corners show wear, with tiny tears to tail of spine. The spine is darkened, and the flap folds are grimy. A historical novel about the Norse adventurer-explorer Leif Ericson, by an award winning Canadian author of Icelandic descent. End papers and title border illustration by J.E.H. MacDonald. Frontispiece and lettering by Thoreau MacDonald. Spadoni and Donnelly # 872. Scarce in jacket. Seller Inventory # 2553

A nice copy of the author's third novel & first historical fiction, in the dramatic J.E.H. MacDonald jacket. With previous owner's ink name on half-title, dated Christmas 1933. One page bears a small light stain at crown (p217). Backstrip of jacket toned as usual with light wear to rear joint, joint terminals & tips.
