About this Item: Maple Leaf Publications, Essex, ON, 1973. Condition: Very Good. First Printing. Eighteen issues of Paul Kowtiuk's The Journal, a rare early rival to the Buyer's Guide. Lot comprises the following issues: Vol. 1, Nos. 2-4; Vol. 2, Nos. 1, 3-6; Nos. 11-16, 20, 22-23, 24/25. The tabloid-size zine is chock full of articles about the North American comics milieu of the era, including a good deal of information relating to early Canadian comics fandom. Among the many contributors are Steve Leialoha, Frank Cirocco, Cliff Letovsky, Stephen Riley, Neal Adams, Basil Wolverton, Gray Morrow, Craig Russell, Owen McCarron, Marty Klug, Richard Comely, and Ron Frantz. The fanzine ceased publication with issue #27, so this lot represents about 2/3 of the run. The fanzine, which was folded once for mailing, is printed on newsprint, so the issues show some toning and light wear. Some also show a little foxing, Overall VG. About this Item: Paris s.d. [ohne Jahr, ca. bis 1875 ]., 1860. In- folio, formats italienne et à la francaise, les ff. 27,5 x 39 cm, les cartes 21 x 25 cm. les bords part. tachetés et un peu endommagés (pt. déchirure). Peut-etre du: La France et ses colonies: Atlas illustré, Paris 1851-74. Les gravures très bon. Ajouté un vue de paysage joli et des portraits des savants et des homes d’état avec les dates biographiques. --- Folio in Hochformat und Querformat, das Kartenbild 21 x 25 cm bzw. 24,5 x 21 cm, das Blattformat 27,5 x 39,0 cm. Jeweils zusätzlich illustriert (siehe Anmerkung!). Einige (ca. 8 bis 10) Außenränder leicht fleckig, ein Blatt mit kleinem Eckabriß, eine andere Ecke mit heller Feuchtspur bis an die Karte, ein anderes Blatt nur rückseitig etwas farbfleckig und angestaubt. Alle Blätter schön breitrandig und gut erhalten. Bibliographisch bisher wie vorliegend nicht bzw. nicht eindeutig ermittelt. Vgl. Brit. Mus., Cat. of printed maps VI,219 (ähnliche Maße, sonst stark abweichend); nicht bei Phillips. Identisch mit Tooley III,252 ?: nur "La France et ses colonies: Atlas illustre", Paris 1851, 1858, 1874, 100 maps. - Imprint-Merkmale und Besonderheiten: einheitlich "Dresse sous la direction de J. Migeon/Ecrit par A. Bizet"; wechselnde Angaben der Stecher Lecocq, Barbier, Waltner u.a. Je Karte ein Departement (Name in Zierbuchstaben) nebst Wappen; Kennzeichnung der Arrondissements durch unterschiedliches Kolorit. Dazu jeweils eine hübsche landschaftstypische Ansicht sowie 2-4, meist 3 Kopfporträts eingeborener Gelehrter, Politiker usw. incl. biogr. Daten. Nur die Karte 66 mit dem Titel "La France avant 1870".
