In the winter of 1944/45, the Allied Armies suffered 24,000 dead, wounded, captured, or missing GIs in the fifty square miles of green hell called the Hurtgen Forest. In addition, frozen or wet feet, respiratory ailments and other non-fatal injuries disabled 9,000. The fight raged on for ninety days with no clear and defined objectives. All these brave men were killed with no material gain. This is the story of Ben F. Strickland, Jr. who was one of the brave soldiers killed in the Hurtgen Forest, but represents one of the many thousands who served in The Big Red One. Signed by Author(s).
