A fine, unread copy of the author's highly-decorated first book of fiction, already into multiple printings. The top corner of the back cover is softly turned but not creased. No remainder mark. The American and Canadian editions are virtually identical. We believe that the American edition was available prior to the Canadian. Both were published in 2006 and printed in the U.S., and both have gone into multiple printings. The author was born in Montreal but lived for some years in Virginia as a child. Currently, she lives in Montreal, the setting of the novel. Lullabies was a finalist for the Orange Prize, Governor General's Literary Award for Fiction and the Amazon/Books In Canada First Novel Award. Winner of the 2007 "Canada Reads" competition sponsored by CBC Radio. The novel is narrated by a 12-year-old named Baby, who is hovering between childhood and the temptations of the adult world. Her father, Jules, takes better care of his heroin habit than he does of her, and Baby learns not to depend on him. Though they live in poverty, she collects and covets the small crumbs of happiness she finds as she navigates the streets of Montreal's red-light district. This edition includes 16 pages of additional material written by the author, including a lengthy autobiography, an essay on the writing of the novel and notes on a dozen books she has read many times. Canadian orders will be charged GST. Signed by Author. Bookseller Inventory # 001374
