Bound set of 1ll 12 issues in blue cloth, spine stamped in gilt. Contains the first publication for H. Rider Haggard. This very scarce publication contains "The Transvaal"; a 10 page article in the May 1877 issue. Only a Fair to good binding with a lot of wear and wrinkling to the cloth - you may want to rebind it. About this Item: 64 - Cambridge - Macmillan & Co., 1860. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First edition. A scarceset of the first ten volumes of Macmillan's Magazine. Superb condition. Bound in calf with gilt lettering and decoration, and marbled edges. Scarce. First edition. Volume I includes Thomas Huxleys review of Darwins Origin of the Species. Volumes I to IV includes the serialisation of Thomas Hughes Tom Brown at Oxford. Volumes VI to VII includes the serialisation of Charles Kingsleys The Water-Babies. David Masson (1822 1907) was a Scottish writer. From 1858 to 1865 he edited the newly established Macmillan's Magazine, which was one of the first magazines to use signed articles only, and published a wide variety of material, including poetry, serialised fiction, articles on politics, and travel. The contributors included Tennyson, Thomas Hughes, and F. D. Maurice. Condition: The binding is tight and firm. There is some very mild wear to the extremities, including some very slight rubbing. Internally the pages are clean and bright with occasional mild spots and the occasional handling mark on the first and last couple of pages. Seller Inventory # 005962
