Early days in the tri-county area of Antelope, Pierce and Madison, NE, are recalled through colorful tales, factual data and individual biographies in this NEW 34-page spiral bound booklet excerpted from the rare 1882 book: History of the State of Nebraska, originally published by the Western Historical Co. of Chicago, and Nebraska, a Guide to the Cornhusker State, a 1939 project of the Federal Writers of the Works Progress Administration. The booklet is photocopied on 60# paper. A vinyl sheet has been added to protect the full-color front cover. Among the topics included are: ANTELOPE COUNTY: Topography, geology and natural resources, Early Settlements, Indian Troubles, Military experiences, Indian relics, Organization of the county, County seat, Railroads, Retarding Influences to progress, Crimes and casualties, Oakdale -- history, newspaper, Oakdale Seminary, Grand Army of the Republic, Neligh -- history, early settlers, church, Gates College, newspaper, societies, other towns including Burnett, St. Clair, Clearwater, Willowdale, Glenalpine, Clear Spring, Orchard, Jessup, and Frenchtown. MADISON COUNTY: Description, Early Settlement; Indians, County organization, Railroads, Crops, Norfolk -- officials, businesses, churches, newspapers, Madison -- history, early settles, churches, businesses; Battle Creek, and other towns; PIERCE COUNTY: Natural features, settlements, county seat and organization; the towns of Pierce, Plainview an Colberger. Besides the many names mentioned in the history portion of the booklet, there are biographies of many residents.
