Marbled edges and floral endpapers. 1181pp. 1756 b/w illustrations. Acceptable condition. Upper 2" of spine partially erose and lower 2 1/2" of spine lacking. The remainder split and peelng and attached only at front joint. Spine secure-taped to front board. Edgeworn with bumped and frayed corners. Inquire if you need further information. Magner's book (first printed 1893) was indeed a standard reference for nearly three decades, and has been reprinted as recently as 1980. Early editions, however, are difficult to find in acceptable condition. Brown pictorial cloth, upper cover stamped in black and gold. Edges a bit rubbed, covers and spine dulled, hinges cracked, and text slightly browned; overall however, a good copy of this bulky book in its fragile cased binding Frontispiece portrait, "1756 illustrations" in the text, and a 32pp. central insert with 17 horse engravings on glossy stock; 1181 pp. 1 vols. 4to Later, expanded edition (first published 1893).
