Item Description: Grosset & Dunlap, New York, 1940. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. I believe this to be a quite special offering for a couple of reasons. One, Maida's Little Lighthouse is very rare. I found only one other copy that had a dust jacket and that seller was asking for $300.00. And Maida's Little Cabins in its dust jacket is also quite rare. Two, all four books and all four dust jackets are in very good shape. I'll try to cover this as best I can: All four books are very solidly bound. I didn't see any binding issues at all. I didn't see any spaces or cracks between pages, not even close. The books are tight. The pages in all four books are extremely clean. I scrolled through all of them and, believe it or not, I didn't see any soiling anywhere. Now, that is not a guarantee. We're talking about approximately 900 pages of Maida's adventures. But, the pages are pretty supple, which is good, so the scrolling allowed me to see a great many of these 900 pages. As to the condition of the pages, it is very, very good. Covering all four books I came across only two pages with creases. Again no guarantee but you get the picture. And I was surprised that the pages were not particularly toned. While they are not the bright white of a new book they are pretty light. Now I'm going to try to list the 'imperfections' in the interiors of each book. In Maida's Little Lighthouse I didn't see any imperfections of any significance, pretty amazing. Maida's Little Cabins has one crease off the top edge of page 101-102. It also has a speck of blue ink at the bottom edge of the illustrated front end paper. Maida's Little Houseboat has a light tan vertical shadow adjacent to the gutter on both the half title page and its opposite page which is the blank side of the map illustrated front end paper. It appears that a bookmark caused this, it's very minor. That appears to be it's only imperfection. Maida's Little Camp finally gives us a little reason for complaint, though not much. It has a penned inscription on the blank side of the illustrated front end paper that says 'To Karen dear, For a good report card, and being a good girl. Love, Mommy'. It also looks like it took a little bump to its middle edge leaving a slight dent/tear off the edge of the last 10 or so pages. Maida's Little Camp, by the way, is the least expensive of the four books. On to the covers: None have major issues. None have any stains. Three of the books covers don't have any wear that needs to be called out. Some of the blue color in Little Cabins has faded away, particularly on the spine (I've provided a photo of the spines of all four books). The silver lettering on the spine of this book is not worn but gets somewhat lost against the faded areas. There's also a little loss of color at the very bottom edge of the spine and there is a very thin line of fabric that doesn't really stand out but still I'm noticing off the top edge of the front cover. In addition there are areas of slight loss of color on the top and bottom edges and on the corners. Now for the Dust Jackets: all four are clipped at the top corner of the front flap, where I thus presume there was once a price. All four are remarkably clean, despite having white rear covers and flaps. A couple have very mild handling soiling on their backs. Maida's Little Lighthouse does have a 2 1/2 inch tear off its front top edge (see photo). Maida's Little Cabins and Maida's Little Camp have 'Karen' penned at top of their front flaps. Maida's Little Houseboat has 7 'Maida's underlined in pen in the listing of other Maida titles on the jacket's front flap. All four jackets have small losses at the top of their spines. There are a couple of other very small instances of loss and a few small tears and creases in total. All the jackets have been long protected by fitted covers. Overall these books are in unusually good condition, quite different from what you normally see with these titles. The photos should confirm that. You are welcome to inquire about buying single titles. Bookseller Inventory # 001265
