A handsome copy in mylar. M. Raymond of the Abbey of Gethsemani writes of the life of Brother Mary Joachim ( from texas cowboy to Trappist monk ), a 19th century Kentucky born outlaw who became a Brother at the Abbey of Gethsemani. Warmly inscribed by Father Raymond with a portrait prayer card of Brother Joachim, printed by the Abbey, affixed to front endpaper. A handsome and collectible copy of Trappist and monastic Americana. [from holy card] John Green Hanning was a wild tempered youth who ran away from his father s Kentucky home to become a Texas cowboy. But his roving career ended at the gate of an austere Trappist monastery. There he was received as a lay brother and spent the rest of his days taming passions harder to handle than any Texas steer. He was the first American born citizen to persevere to the end as a Trappist at Our Lady of Gethsemani, dying in the odor of sanctity on April 30th, 1908.
