Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Full blindstamped decorative brown leather, stamped gilt lettering, all edges gilt, 6x9 inches, index, 604 pp, illustrated with plates; 30 are called for in an unnumbered list of them, but only 23 are present, possibly as printed, since there is no evidence of them having been tipped-in plus there are two present that are not listed. Corners bumped with cardboard exposed there, red rot along edges and high points of the binding, ¼ to ½ inch chipping off head and foot of spine, tanning on four adjoining leaves from laid-in pieces of newspaper, otherwise tight, clean, paper crisp, unmarked; probably never really read. Book
Hardcover. Condition: Poor. Binding copy of an 8vo hardcover in No dust jacket (if issued). Black cloth half-bound in burgundy leather with gilt dividing lines and gilt spine lettering. Modest condition grade because the rear board is detached and there is a nearly four inch tear along the spine edge of the front board. Ex-library label on the spine tail; ex-library stamp on the decorated free front end paper. Gutter tears preceding the half title page suggest one or more preceding pages may have been torn out. Tears in the 'Dissected Plate' that precedes the title page. Unable to locate Colored Plates XXiV-XXV and A through E. Still, the contents (596 pp.) otherwise appear clean, complete, and securely bound. Dulled and soiled all gilt edges. Aside from the binding issues, the covers have rubbed beveled outer edges; rubbed raised spine bands (4); a large chip in the spine tail; and some soiling and staining. **Extra charges to cover shipping costs will apply to an order requesting expedited and/or international shipping because of the size and weight of this book.
