Ex-Library reference copy. Produced by the Imperial Japanese Government Railways to encourage European travel in the region this extensive guidebook covers many areas that have undergone dramatic change during the century since its release. Contains numerous fold-out maps in good functionable condition (small library stamps to the reverse). World map is loose but appears not to have been previously bound in the book. Bound in brown/red thin, almost flexible cover boards with gilt titling and blind stamped library emblem to back board. End pages covered with maps of the area. Decorative gold tint to top of page edges. Structurally and internally in very good condition for its age. Library bookplate facing the title page. Foxing and light tanning to page edges. Clean pages with clear, readable text and no annotations. Further images/information available on request. Good condition is defined as: a copy that has been read but remains in clean condition. All of the pages are intact and the cover is intact and the spine may show signs of wear. The book may have minor markings which are not specifically mentioned. Original grey cloth, lettered in brown; pp. [viii, the first two blank], 315, highly illustrated throughout; cloth a little spotted and worn, as usual, front inner hinge strengthened; internally very good. First edition, rare. The larger part of the book deals with Korea under Japanese control with a long chapter on banking and the National Bank. The volume gives an overview of the history, arts economy and peoples of the peninsula, and does the same on it's Northern neighbour, Manchuria.
