Hardcover. Condition: Very Good (Minus). No Jacket. First Edition. New York/Toronto/London: McGraw-Hill Book Company, Inc., 1959. Condon (1915-1996), a prolific writer of political satire is "generally considered to a visionary, a darkly comic conjurer, a student of American mythology and a master of conspiracy theories, as vividly demonstrated in 'The Manchurian Candidate" (NY Times). This is a Very Good (Minus) copy of the First Edition (stated), lacking a dustjacket. Tan paper-covered boards, pebbled (a la Jackson Pollock) in splashes of red, white, and blue. Blue cloth spine withwhite titling. Clean text; 311 pages. There is a previous-owner chop to the half-title page. Corners are bumped, the spine is rubbed at its margins, and there is a 3/4" tear at the head of the spine. A really good reading copy for our troubled times; obviously not for the advanced collector. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Minus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Book First Edition
A first edition, first printing published by Michael Joseph in 1959. A very good book with one neat inscription and price to the front endpaper in a near fine unclipped wrapper with a small crease to the back panel. A touch of rubbing but a SUPERB example of the dust wrapper. Richard Condon's "The Manchurian Candidate" is a gripping political thriller first published in 1959 and later adapted into a highly acclaimed film. The story revolves around Raymond Shaw, a Korean War veteran who becomes a pawn in a sinister communist plot. Shaw's mind is manipulated through brainwashing techniques, turning him into an unwitting assassin programmed to obey orders. The novel explores themes of mind control, political conspiracy, and the consequences of war. Condon's work delves into the paranoia of the Cold War era, providing a chilling portrayal of the manipulation of human consciousness and the dark side of political power.

First Edition
Richard Condon. The Manchurian Candidate. New York, 1959. First Edition. Octavo. Full blue cloth binding, with white lettering on spine and "12401" stamped in white at the lower right corner of the rear cover. Original dust jacket. In good condition, with some chips and paper loss at fore edges and spine. First Edition. Classic novel about a brainwashed Korean war vet whose been programmed as an assassin. The novel has been adapted twice into a feature film with the same title, in 1962 and again in 2004. The 1962 film is faithful to the book; the 2004 remake updates the action and alters characters. One of those happy cases where the film version and the book achieved almost equal stature, well-deserved in both instances.
