As this reprint is from very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold-outs, if any, are not part of the book. If the original book was published in multiple volumes then this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. This paperback book is SEWN, where the book block is actually sewn (smythe sewn/section sewn) with thread before binding which results in a more durable type of paperback binding. Item Description: Milan, 1909. Paperback. Book Condition: Good. Editions De "Poesia", Milan, Rue Senato, N. 2, 1909. First published on the front page of Paris’s Le Figaro newspaper in February 1909, Marinetti’s Manifesto of Futurism was quickly published in French as the 12th volume under the imprint of his poetry magazine Poesia. In this book Marinetti asked more than forty individuals (Khan, Viélé-Griffin, Rachilde, Verhaeren, Régnier, Capuana, Pascoli, Jules Bois, D'Annunzio, Ada Negri, Stuart Merrill, Émile Bernard, Jammes, Lucini, etc.) to respond to free verse poetry – poetry that does not follow rules, and has no rhyme or rhythm; yet are still considered artistic expression. 7.25x5.75", 153 pp, text in French. Good copy with fragile and lightly soiled covers and some interior pages. With a small split on the back cover near the head of spine. Bookseller Inventory # KC15820

Item Description: 19091910, Milano, 1909. éditions de «Poesia» (Officina Grafica Bertieri e Vanzetti), pp. [2] 153 [9]. Bookseller Inventory # 03126

Item Description: Editions De "Poesia", Milan, 1909. 5.me Mille. F. S. Flint's copy. Fragile. 148 pp in Italian + Table of Futurists. Text block split but sound, Front and rear covers detatched with minor edge loss. Paper spine fragile with 10% loss. Magnificent dedication from Author to F S Flint on first free endpaper (see Image), in ink and in a flamboyant hand "A F.S. Flint. Hommage de sympathie tres vive. F T Marinetti". (To F.S Flint. With my very vivid sympathy. F.T Marinetti)." [Frank Stuart Flint, 1885-1960 was an English poet and translator who was a prominent member of the Imagist group. Ford Madox Ford called him "one of the greatest men and one of the beautiful spirits of the country". In 1909 he would have been just 24, the same year that he published "In the Net of the Stars". The Manifesto of Futurism, In Italian: "Manifesto del Futurismo", written by the Italian poet Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, initiated an artistic philosophy, Futurism, that was a rejection of the past, and a celebration of speed, machinery, violence, youth and industry; it also advocated the modernization and cultural rejuvenation of Italy. Marinetti wrote the manifesto in the autumn of 1908 and it first appeared as a preface to a volume of his poems, published in Milan in January 1909. It was published in the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dell'Emilia in Bologna on 5 February 1909, then in French, as we have here, as Manifeste du Futurisme (Manifesto of Futurism) where it first appeared in the newspaper Le Figaro on 20 February 1909]. Marinetti would have been 33 at the time of this dedication. Flint is mostly known for his participation in the "School of Images" with Ezra Pound and T. E. Hulme in 1909, of which he gave an account in the "Poetry Review" in 1909 and which was to serve as the theoretical basis for the later Imagist movement (1913). His subsequent association with Ezra Pound and T. E. Hulme, together with his deepening knowledge of innovative French poetic techniques, radically affected his poetry's development.
