Good hardcover: quarter leather (rubbed). Foxed throughout. Ink names; from the renowned equestrian collection of Henry Sarasin, with his bookplate. In French. ** The title page continues: "Ou Essai d'une progression pour servir au dressage prompt et complet des chevaux de selle, et particulierement des chevaux d'armes, precede d'une analyse raisonnee du Baucherisme." On the systematic training of saddle and cavalry horses. Gerhardt's first book, based on Baucher and dedicated to him. (The spine label mistakenly reads: Baucher.) Baucher's short text of thanks commends Gerhardt's analysis of his method. Gerhardt, then an instructor in the Imperial Guard and later at Saumur, was known for his work with difficult horses.
