Book
Hardcover. Condition: see description for condition. 1. short white cloth-backed card inserted in brown leathersleeve with undated black title to front (some copies have '1914' added); clean and unmarked but slight sp. end rubbing. 11 cm x 17.5 cm. 2. Dark red boards with rounded outer corners, blind-stamped border-lines and gilt sp. lettering, clean and unworn bar sl. sp. end rubbing, 10 cm x 13 cm. 3. as 2. but 13.5 cm x 18 cm. 4. as 2. & 3. but dark green, no corner curving, small lighter patch to back, bottom sp. slightly chipped and 2 small spots of same top fr. joint, outer corners rubbed otherwise clean and unworn though had to re-glue splitting front joint, which remains tender. All have light pink or red Military Books lists at either end. Detailed paginations on request. 1. has 21 plates, many coloured and unfolding, sig. 'E. Baldwin Lt. RAMC' pencilled ttop fr. end-aper, which is slightly tanned otherwise clean, tight and unmarked. 2. clean and unmarked, short split bottom fr. gutter and feels a touch shaken, no ills. 3. 13 text figs. sig. as 1. top t.p., otherwise clean, tight and unmarked. 4. front gutter opening but now held in check by transparent tear repair tape, sig. as 1. & 3. top first leaf of books list but 'Lt.' crossed out and replaced by 'Capt' with '(T C)' added, presumably short for 'Training Corps', 154 text figs, spotted some penciled marginalia and underlining to one page, may be more, presumably by Baldwin. E. Baldwin was certainly Edgar Baldwin as listed in Imperial War Museum Live of the First World War listing as Lt. rising to Captain, but no other biographical information available on Baldwin family genealogy site that I can find. An interesting collection of identifiable Great War provenance, most now being scarce individually.
