Mariana Tuckett and her sisters Lizzie and Charlotte (Charley) were memebers of a Quaker family living at Frenchay near Bristol. In September 1858 they went to stay with their mother's brothers, who lived with their families in and around Falmouth, Robert Were Fox at Penjerrick (and Rosehill). Joshua Fox at Tregedna. Alfred Fox at Wodehouse Place and Glendurgan, and Charles Fox at Trebah. At the time Marianna was eighteen, Lizzie a little older, and Charlotte still a school girl. They had one brother Frank who did not accompany his sisters to Cornwall having spent the summer months in the Alps. Marian kept a diary of their holiday and Lizzie sketched some of its incidents.
