Item Description: Heinemann, London, 1960. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First UK Edition. FIRST PRINTING of the 1st UK Edition which was first printed in the US as "Dempsey, by the man himself". Publisher's original red boards with silver titles to the spine and publishers blind stamped device to the lower board. Publisher's original dust jacket with distinctive design by Renato Fratini (Fratini design to the front and spine panels and the same photograph of Dempsey on the rear panel as is on the front of the US edition), unclipped, showing original price of 18s on the front flap. The boards are in near fine condition, all fore edge corners are firm, sharp and square and there is no sign of shelf wear. There is a tiny push at the head of the spine and a tiny dark smudge mark on the front board. The binding is firm and square and there are a few light foxing spots to the edge of the text block. Internally, the pages are very clean without any stains, marks or blemishes. The book is inscribed and signed on the front pastedown: "To my friend / Steve Fagan / lots of luck Steve / Jack Dempsey / 10-18-67 / London". The original dust jacket is in very good condition, with no tears. The white "Dempsey" titles on the front and spine are very bright and clean. There is a 2 x 1mm spot of red surface paper loss that now shows white (just under the "N" of "IN"). There is a vertical crease 1cm into the front panel from the upper joint, some vertical creasing close to the fore edge on the rear panel and creasing to the rear flap. There are tiny tape/adhesive marks on the flaps, presumably from some kind of cover/protection in the past ¿ that would explain the excellent colour and condition of the jacket. In all, a very nice copy of the scarce 1st UK edition. If you would like any further information or images, please do not hesitate to ask. Signed by Author(s). Bookseller Inventory # 001065
