Item Description: Unpublished, Great Missenden, 1986. No Binding. Book Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A single page signed letter from Roald Dahl to a teacher and his pupils near Leeds: 'Hello handsome Roger and all the clever children from Swillington Primary School', presumably a joke deriving from the 'lovely letters' that Dahl generously acknowledges. After offering his thanks, Dahl quotes his own four line poem which was published more than a decade later in Roald Dahl's Treasury: 'As I grown old and just a trifle frayed It's nice to know that I have sometimes made You children and occasionally the staff Stop work and have instead a little laugh.' The letter which is typed on Dahl's headed Great Missenden paper is signed in full by the author in blue ink. There are old horizontal folds and toning to the paper stock. Despite his achievements as a writer Dahl had a reputation as a difficult and sometimes emotionally cruel man so it is a pleasure to be able to offer such a sunny letter. It's not been possible to establish the date of composition of Dahl's poem - this may be a very early iteration. Please contact Christian White at Modernfirsteditions for more information about this letter. Signed by Author(s). Bookseller Inventory # 003071
