About this Item: New York: Brentano's, 1926. Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Ex-library copy, but the sole surviving marking reflecting that fact is call letters on the spine. Thick 8vo hardcover is fair to good and in no dj. Black boards with stamped gilt lettering and design. Spine is heavily sunned and has a hole over one of the call numbers, a tear along the front spine edge, and erosion with fraying in the spine head and tail. Wear to the boards is more moderate but includes bumped and rubbed corners. The page's colored top edge is faded and dust stained; the pages' fore and bottom edges are uncut. Missing the brown ffep and other pre-half title page contents. Remaining contents, however are clean and securely bound. Extensively illustrated (57 in color, 108 in b&w), with some color costume plates pasted to a black backing page being absolutely stunning. **Extra shipping charges may apply to expedited and international orders because of the size and thickness of this book. About this Item: Brentano's, New York, 1926. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Translations from the German by Mariele S. Gudernatsch. 50 color plates, including 11 tipped-in and one two-page, and numerous textual photographs and illustrations. "The Miracle" Edition, a reissue of the 1924 first edition published in conjunction with a revival of Reinhardt's celebrated production of "The Miracle." A collection of articles on theatre director Max Reinhardt (1873-1943) by various writers, critics, artists, actors, friends, and associates. Also includes a chapter written by Reinhardt himself, who discusses the art of the theatre, and the importance of the actor. One of the first theatrical directors to achieve widespread recognition as a major creative artist, the German-born Reinhardt became an overnight sensation with his 1905 production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." An innovator in theatre art and technique, his work often involved spectacular, large-scale productions, as in "The Miracle" (London, 1911), which used over 2,000 actors. As co-founder of the Salzburg Festival (1920), he left Germany in 1933 and moved to Hollywood, where he opened a theatre workshop. Original black cloth binding, with decorative gilt stamping and patterned endpapers. The spine is sun faded; otherwise a very good copy. Seller Inventory # 50905
