About this Item: Canadian Concerts & Artists, Inc., 1972. Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Maya Plisetskaya and the Bolshoi Ballet, presented by Nicolas F. Koudriavtzeff, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of U.S.S.R., was published by Canadian Concerts & Artists, Inc., in 1972. Not an ex-library copy, this 41-year-old, 30-page, 8 1/4" X 10 3/4", softcover offering is in VG condition. There is just the hint of yellowing of text's pages, and the outer-top corners of a handful of same display mild creases. The Bolshoi has foundational roots reaching as far back as 1773; it made its landmark tour of North America in 1959. This delightful, extremely well-preserved offering is the promotional program, most informative and illustrated with most of the troupe's principals accounted for(such as prima ballerina Maya Plisetskaya, lead male dancer Nicolai Fadeyechev, conductor Alexandre Kopylov, and other soloists Maya Samokhvalova, Nina Sorokina, Yuri Vladimorov, Maris Liepa, and Marina Kondratieva), detailing the performance stops on its 1972 Canadian Tour. There were, in all, five stops, beginning at the National Arts Centre, in Ottawa, June 16-17-18, and concluding at Acadia University, in Wolfville, on July 13-14-15. Attendees at the various performances enjoyed such ballets as "Swan Lake", "The Little Humpbacked Horse", "Raymonda", "Giselle", "Chopiniana", and "Carmen". Anyone who collects memorabilia pertaining to The Bolshoi, arguably the most esteemed ballet ensemble on this planet, might well give this over-sized, information and photo-filled program booklet a serious look. NOTE: Even the PERIOD ADVERTISEMENTS are a window into the culture of the early 1970's, featuring such businesses as Hudson's Bay Company, Overseas Marketing Ltd., Air Canada, CP Air, Piaget, Philippe Venet, Sabena, Remy Martin, and Peugeot. Thank you!!. Seller Inventory # 006080

About this Item: Rizzoli, NYC, 1989, Presumed first Edition, 1989. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. VG/VG DJ, HB, 4to., 208 pgs. The former owner of this volume was a passionate admirer of Maya Plisetskaya, the Prima Ballerina Assoluta of the Bolshoi. The book itself is a record of modern Soviet Russian Ballet in its recent tours around the world; all of the stars of all of the companies in stop action B&W and color, and an entire chapter on Plisetskaya herself. The former owner, however, used it to house a sheaf of ballet memoribilia, all associated with his adoration of Plisetskaya. The front pastedown contains her penned address in Germany, with corrections, in the waning days of the Soviet Empire. Next is the 28 page catalog of artists of the Los Angeles Classical Ballet Benefit Performance of Feb 15 & 16, 1992 with Plisetskaya as special guest artist, along with the Pasadena Civic Auditorium ticket of admission for the Feb 16, 1992 performance, the program for that day and a duofold leaflet with Plisetskaya on the cover and the full page when opened. Most importantly are three B&W photos of Plisetskaya in performanc (but not of that venue): an 8X10 of Maya in "Carmen" stamped on the reverse in green "Photographed by Judy Cameron"; an 8X10 from "Swan Lake", photographer unknown and signed in ink in upper left "Maya Plisetskaya 15/II-92", which was the first day of the performance at the Pasadena Civic Center; and finally a 7X10 of Maya, again from a performance of Swan Lake, photographer unknown. The remaining miscellany includes a Russian post card of Maya in "Swan Lake", 2 LA Times paper clippings from 1992, a copy of a letter by the former owner, before her February 16, performance, requesting her address in order to send her a 4X6 color photo of his nearly complete painting of her, (a copy of the photo included here as well which also appears as a full color plate photo in the book and used by the former owner as a model for his painting). In all a wonderful collection of material depicting one of the greatest of the great prima ballerinas of the 20th century. Signed photos by Plisetskaya are uncommon and alone list for more than 50% higher than the price of this whole collection. Seller Inventory # 6347-2-3
