Item Description: AUTHORHOUSE, United States, 2009. Paperback. Book Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.Since 2004, the US Army has started a revolution of reorganization and doctrine development throughout its Combat, Combat Support and especially Combat Service Support logistics organizations, known as Transformation. In the logistics or Sustainment arena, the Army s concept towards supporting other units has changed from the old out-stockpile the enemy concept towards a system used by modern civilian distributors - Just-In-Time sustainment, leaving planning and synchronizing throughput of commodities and support to the customer with little margin of error. To successfully accomplish this, Sustainment planners must thoroughly understand the Military Decision Making Process or MDMP for short. Conducting a Sustainment oriented MDMP is essential in integrating the Sustainment War Fighting Functional Area into the unit s plan and for ensuring a synchronized and supportable course of action. Successful integration is a result of having the right personnel, available tools, correct MDMP methodology, and synchronized timeline throughout the process. If this guide can assist logistics planners in accomplishing this process, then it has accomplished its intent and mission. Bookseller Inventory # AAV9781438970202

Item Description: Biblioscholar, United States, 2012. Paperback. Book Condition: New. Language: English . This book usually ship within 10-15 business days and we will endeavor to dispatch orders quicker than this where possible. Brand New Book. In the summer of 2003, the United States Army was ill prepared to wage an effective counter-insurgency campaign in Iraq. The lack of institutional readiness can be seen in many areas, but one of the most glaring was its utter lack of doctrine concerning planning counter-insurgency operations and campaigns. Despite having built one of the most effective conventional warfare tactical training systems in the world, the Army had little focus on counter-insurgency training or doctrine. This monograph argues that the UEX planner must broaden the MDMP in order to make it an effective COIN planning process. The MDMP was designed as a planning process for conventional operations. It is, therefore, focused on planning conventional operations leading to the defeat of the enemy in battle. Successful COIN operations do not necessarily lead to a decisive battle, but successfully isolate the insurgent from his sources of power. Therefore, an effective COIN planning process must be comprehensive enough to address the military and non-military conditions that sustain the insurgency. This requires the planners to understand the critical aspects of the overall society and its key participants while developing logical lines of operations to achieve the desired endstate. This monograph recommends a modification to the MDMP in order to make it compatible with the realities of counter-insurgency warfare. The term coined here for the new planning technique is COIN Modeling. Bookseller Inventory # LIE9781249919605

This book usually ship within 10-15 business days and we will endeavor to dispatch orders quicker than this where possible. Brand New Book. This monograph explains the ability of the military decision-making process to inform the decision-maker in the current operational environment. A comparison of the operational environment, as envisioned through the U.S. Army s doctrine, before and after the end of the Cold War establishes the framework by which commanders makes decisions. Moreover this comparison highlights the critical changes in that environment that the MDMP has yet to account for. Next, an analysis of naturalistic decision-making theory provides insight into how commanders inform the decisions they make. Subsequently, the military decision-making process (MDMP) is analyzed to determine the advantages and disadvantages of the process as compared to the current operational environment and the way experienced commanders naturally make decisions. This analysis establishes the logical evolutionary steps the MDMP must make in order to be a viable decision-making process in the current operational environment The fundamental dilemmas of decision-making within the U.S. Army are five fold. First, there currently is little experience within the U.S. Army at the operational level. Yet, since the end of the cold war the U.S. Army is increasingly becoming involved at the operational level of war, as the shift in focus of the Army s doctrine indicates. Second, Joint Doctrine does not prescribe a methodology for decision-making that is fundamentally different from the tactical MDMP contained in U.S. Army doctrine. Because of the deficiency in Joint Doctrine it is logical that a U.S. Army planner, for example, operating in a Joint Task Force (JTF) Headquarters will utilize the only decision-making process that the planner is familiar with-the MDMP. Yet the MDMP is a tactical process. Third, the MDMP was a tactical decision-making process designed for the pre-cold war, tactical U.S. Army. However, the post-Cold War environment is more focused on the operational level. Fourth the MDMP was potentially time-consu. Bookseller Inventory # LIE9781288287932

This book usually ship within 10-15 business days and we will endeavor to dispatch orders quicker than this where possible. Brand New Book. The U.S. Army s Military Decision-Making (MDMP) has been criticized repeatedly during the past decade for being untimely, unrealistic, dogmatic, and stifling creativity. U.S. Army Field Manual, FM 5.0, Army Planning and Orders Production, is currently in final draft. FM 5.0 identifies the theory behind decision-making, the decision-making environment, and describes key planning concepts that answer the criticism surrounding U.S. Army decision-making. It is the author s assertion that the MDMP has not been revised to capitalize on what is published in doctrine therefore it is not the optimum decision-making process. However, alternative decision-making models exist that can enable the Army to modify the MDMP to meet the demands of the military decision-making environment. The purpose of this monograph is to prove that the MDMP is not the optimum decision-making process and provide an alternative that meets the requirements of the military decision-making environment. In order to determine if the MDMP provides the optimum decision-making method, this monograph reviews decision-making theory; determines requirements of the military decision-making environment; describes and analyzes the current U.S. military decision-making doctrine and MDMP; and describes and analyzes alternative military decision-making models. The following requirements from the military decision-making environment are used as analytical criteria to evaluate the MDMP: uncertainty, time, complexity, joint, commander s focus, flexible plans, and bold plans. The alternative decision-making models are: Canadian Operational Planning Process; Major John Schmitt and Gary Klein s Recognitional Planning Model; Colonel Kevin Benson s Collaborative Decision-making Model; and the Naval War College Commander s Estimate of the Situation (CES). A comparative analysis shows that the MDMP is equal to or better than the alternative decision-making processes with respect to uncertainty and complexity. The Colla. Bookseller Inventory # APC9781438970219
