Uniformly bound in later dark green quarter morocco over cream linen boards, spines with raised bands, gilt lettered to three panels and decorated to the others. Profusely illustrated throughout. A very good set. One of the great historical and topographical descriptions of London. Besant was commissioned to compile the survey in the 1890s, under-supported by the publishers who "relied too much on Besant's talents and money - both already hopelessly over-stretched". The set was published posthumously between 1902 and 1912. Bookseller Inventory # 24844
