Code on back and slipped-in notifications suggest 1942. 3 printed inserts partly stuck in after title page near hinge p3.,not obscuring text: an Addendum concerning details of price and ordering, a small note about payment by cash, and a note on packing costs. Light brown paper-covered hard card covers. Brown titles front and spine, and publisher details rear. Colour illustration mounted on front, with a few score-marks and pin-point indentations. Wraps soiled and foxed. Corners rubbed and dog-eared. Separation paper covering and layers of corners lower front cover, and corners of covers at spine folds. Spine ends bumped and rubbed. Separation, tearing and part-loss 20mm head and tail ends backstrip. Inner surface wraps, leaves and edges foxed. Binding firm. No inscriptions. Bookseller Inventory # 001481

Marie de' Medici (1575-1642) became Queen of France as the second wife of King Henry IV of France, of the House of Bourbon. She was a member of the wealthy and powerful House of Medici. Following the assassination of her husband in 1610, which occurred the day after her coronation, she acted as regent for her son, King Louis XIII of France, until he came of age. [Source: Wikipedia]. Description: "Historie der Nederlandscher ende Haerder Na-buren Oorloge", published The Hague: Hellebrant Jacobz Wou, 1614.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Cornelis Danckerts' after 'Emanuel Van Meteren'. This portrait by Cornelis Danckerts after Antoon van Dyck. Emanuel van Meteren or Meteeren (1535-1612) was a Flemish historian and consul for 'the Traders of the Low Countries' in London. As a historian Van Meteren was special in that he was not merely a chronicler of the events of his time, but also a powerful and wealthy man who influenced those events. The first edition of his 'Historia Belgica' was published in Latin, in Amsterdam, 1597. A continuation was written up to the date of Meteren's death, published in Dutch in 1614. A French translation was published in the Hague in 1618. Van Meteren is the author whose evidence was most important for establishing the innocence of Anne Boleyn. Condition: Very good, given age. A small dampstain in the left and top left margin corner (not affecting image). Text on the verso. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
