Item Description: Houghton Mifflin Co., Boston, MA, 1943. Original Cloth. Book Condition: VG+. Dust Jacket Condition: VG-. First Thus. Pale red cloth, lettered in black. Slightly rubbed corners and spine extremities. Modest foxing to text block edges, minor foxing to endsheets, otherwise Near Fine, with firm binding, clean interior. xxi,694 pp. Slight loss along bottom edge near binding to two early leaves (pp. v-viii). Red and black dust jacket chipped with loss at head of spine, slightly chipped at heel, mild creasing along top front edge, some toning/foxing evident on rear panel and flaps, price-clipped front flap, now in mylar. Undated main title, with 1943 copyright, no indication of subsequent printings, suggesting a very early printing of the first edition (thus - the Manheim translation) -- as per Houghton's 1937 statement, specifying that a first printing must show a date on the lower main title, and that date must match the copyright; later printings are often explicitly indicated but not necessarily. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book. Bookseller Inventory # 037879
