Folio, 2 volumes; pp. (8), 508, (12) table; (8) 448, (14) Table; contemporary full mottled calf, raised bands, spines richly gilt in compartments, contrasting gilt spine labels, only minor rubbing and bumping, moderate browning or foxing in places, last leaves of vol.II with traces of humidity in outer margin, altogether in very good condition, a decorative set. This is the account of the reign of Henry IV (1589-1610), written by his principal minister, Duc de Sully. Sully had an enormous influence; he encouraged agriculture, promoted stock raising and the free circulation of goods, he planned a system of canals. During the reign of Henry IV agriculture and commerce improved, and foreign peace and internal order were maintained. Sully's influence ended with the assassination of Henry IV in 1610.
