Contemporary full calf, boards a little rubbed, sometime excellent reback to match, with gilt spine, marbled edges with marbled endpapers. Also signed by Lodge, ‘I wrote this Preface’, Edmd Lodge, Norvoy’ to page [iii], inserted loosely is a page of neat manuscript notes [by Lodge?] indicating where are found memorial inscriptions to Reresby. Reresby travelled abroad in the aftermath of the English civil war, and the first part of this work covers his travels Europe, including France, Italy, Holland and Switzerland, the second ‘memoirs’ concerns his experiences from the death of Cromwell in 1658 until 1689. Occasional light foxing to plates, otherwise a very nice item indeed, printed on good quality paper with wide margins (the price four guineas presumably indicated a 'de lux' version.
