Backstrip of volume I shredded; what remains is partially attached to front joint. Spine of volume II is darkened, chipped at head and heel. Inner hinges are intact on both volumes, though bindings are both very loose. Textblocks both intact. Pages only lightly toned along margins. Text free of foxing and readers' markings with the exception of numerous pencil marks in the margins of volume I. This first American edition does not contain any illustrations. . Excellent chance to acquire Erasmus Darwin's Botanic Garden and Temple of Nature with Lord Byron's Don Juan as a bonus in an antiquarian volume. Darwin pieces dated 1824; Byron dated 1829. Bound together in original half leather and marbled boards with gilt decoration. Pagination: frontis, 203 pgs, 100, 10 plates, frontis, 292. Twelve plates total. Spine reads "Modern Poets. Volume III (3)" Calling condition overall Good. Spine has external cracks and chips to leather but internally block is tightly sewn, no cracks in text binding and all holding together very well. Plates have moderate to heavy foxing but are still very cool. No writing, signatures, stamps or vandalism.
