Item Description: Philadelphia. McCarty & Davis. 1834, 1834. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. Memoirs of Benjamin Franklin. Written by Himself, and continued by his Grandson and others With his Social Epistolary Correspondence, Philosophical, Political, and Moral Letters and Essays, and his Diplomatic Transactions as Agent at London and Miniser Plenipotentiary at Versailles. Augmented by much matter not contained in any former edition. With a Postliminous Preface. In Two volumes. Philadelphia. McCarty & Davis. 1834 2 volumes. Handsomely bound in full leather, likely the original binding, with black labels on the spines. 624 and 516 pages. Marbled endpapers and foreedges. Booksellers label on the inside front cover from Doubleday and Sears booksellers in Mobile, Alabama. First volume has a ownership name on the first blank page that reads P.H. Mullikins (might say S.H.), Mobile, January 30, 1839. A Pencil sketch on the back of that page showing a young man smoking a long pipe. Presentation inscription on the next blank, to James A Crandell. Second volume is missing most of the first blank page (so the Mullikins inscription there is torn in half) and half of the second blank page. A tiny inscription appears at the top of the back of the frontispiece, but I canít quite make it out. Volume 2 has a dozen or so plates, of which the Maritime Observations and the Map of the Gulf Stream are damaged. After page 516, there are stubs of three missing pages Ė one of which was a printed page. Both volumes have engraved title pages and frontispiece illustrations. Volume 1ís frontis is a portrait of Franklin. Very Good condition. An interesting (and vague) association to Mobile, which is unusual. Bookseller Inventory # Fred-W609
