Item Description: Bath: Robt. H. Fryar. Landscape Format Folio. Book Condition: Fair to Good. First Edition. This is the true first edition, 1887 publication. Condition: There is a previous owner's book plate to the front endpaper, on the title page there is a plate placed below the publication year from Theosophical Book Concern in Boston, Mass- may be where the book was originally sold. The book is edgeworn with the corners in particular where the blue cloth has been worn down to expose the boards. There is foxing to the endpapers but not to the interior. There is water damage to the back cover, covers ~4"x2" area midway alongside the edge of the book which shows throughout the pages either some or not at all- the water damage to the edges of the pages is ~2" and goes in ~1/4"-1/2" deep. All text and plates are free of foxing and water damage. The book is in Fair to Good Condition but as the binding is tight and all the pages are free of most detriment I would call this a solid Good Condition due to the age and scarcity of the title. Book Description: Landscape format folio, 15" x 11.5", xvi + 20pp. Blue cloth covered boards with gold inlay for text and cover design. Two tipped in plates, one of the Isis Tablet opposite the title page and the other has two diagrams, one is Ã’The Diagram of Eliphaz LeviÃ" and the second is Ã’WestcottÕs Diagram From The Views Of KircherÃ". The title page is printed in red and black. Double-column printing. Published in 1887 in a Limited Edition run of 100 copies. This is W. Wynn Westcott's study of the Isiac Tablet, an ancient Egyptian artifact that was sold to Cardinal Bembo by a soldier in 1527. The tablet is made of bronze, and is covered with representations of Egyptian deities and hieroglyphs, and was said to have been part of the temple of Isis (hence the verb "Isiac"). It attracted the attention of writers on esoteric subjects from Athanasius Kircher through to Eliphas Levi, all of whose opinions were recorded and examined by Westcott in his study. Westcott was one of the founders of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the fraternity in which Aleister Crowley received his early training in magic and would make a profound influence on his own studies in the occult. Laurentij Pignorij Patauini Mensa Isiaca, qua sacrorum: Pignoria Lorenzo

Item Description: Amsterdam, Andreas Fries, 1669. Blackmer, 1312; Gay, 1567; Ibrahim-Hilmy, II, 119. Bookseller Inventory # 0000000004533

Mensa Isiaca, qua sacrorum apud aegyptios ratio: PIGNORIA, LAURENTIUS (LORENZO):

Item Description: 1669, 1669. 4to. Pp. (viii), 97, index (11); (viii), 96. With one engraved extra title by A. Blothelingh, 3 engraved title-vignettes, 11 folding engraved plates (one with repaired tear), 9 full-page illustrations and further more vignettes and other illustrations in the text. With some old annotations. Contemporary speckled calf, rebacked with original spine preserved. Third and best edition of Pignoria's "Mensa Isiaca", the first notable work of Egyptology (first published as "Vetustissimae tabulae aeneae sacris Aegyptiorum" in 1605). "Mensa Isiaca" or the table of Isis was a elaborated bronze table top discovered in the ruins of the Temple of Isis in Rome in 1525 or 1527 and became one of the most famous Egyptian artefacts known at the time. It is beleived that this bronze table was executed in Rome in the first century A.D. It passed into the possession of Cardinal Bembo, who allowed Pignoria to examine it. Many scholars had different ideas about the function of the "Mensa Isiaca" but Pignoria's explanation was the simplest and most convincing. He believed that it was a representation of sacrificial ceremonies according to Egyptian rites. The illustrations were done by Aeneas Vico. The second work is Pignoria's essay on the Great Mother of Gods, first published in 1623. Blackmer 1312. Gay 1567. Ibrahim-Hilmy ii, 119. Bookseller Inventory # 27034
