Item Description: Compton Press, (Wiltshire), 1969. Book Condition: Near Fine. First edition. Illustrated by Patrick Procktor. Quarto. 13, [1]pp. Stapled illustrated wrappers. A bit of age-toning on the wrappers, near fine. Short story of two men looking for love in the English countryside. Inscribed by Procktor: "Happy Christmas Dickey, Patrick." On the facing page is a full-page pencil drawing by Procktor (very similar to the frontispiece drawing) labeled "Karlie." One hand correction in the text. Procktor was a flamboyant Irish-born painter and member of the Royal Academy who according to one source despite being married "flaunted his homosexuality and dressed exotically." His first exhibition in 1963 was a great success and his reputation was enhanced and resulted in, among other things, his winning of numerous commissions to design sleeves for pop records (his painting "The Guardian Readers" is the cover of Elton John's album "Blue Moves"). His circle included David Hockney and Francis Bacon, among others. Several photographs of Procktor by Cecil Beaton hang in the National Portrait Gallery, as does Procktor's own drawing of Joe Orton. Procktor's drawings sell actively at auction. Rare. OCLC locates a single copy, in Australia. Bookseller Inventory # 368355
