About this Item: Harvard University Press 1975, 1975. First 4to, cloth. xvi+267 pp, 237 b/w illustrations, bibliographies, index.Published in conjunction with an exhibition, November 19, 1975 - January 7, 1976, which was concerned with the problems raised by the practice and processes of reproducion of original sculpture during the nineteenth century. These problems were at once artistic, technical, commercial and art-historical. Essays on particular works of Houdon, Barye, Carpeaux, Rodin, Saint-Gaudens and French are included. The exhibition may be considered an outgrowth of Wasserman's study of Daumier's sculpture at the Fogg Museum in 1969.
