Original book rebound in half red leather with maroon cloth. Spine has raised bands and gilt borders, faint residue of personal spine label. Near VG, some foxing throughout, light wear. Binding very solid and secure.

Black covers with blindstamped designs on front and back, and gilt lettering and designs on spine. Spine is missing strips at each end and has tears and scrapes along edges. Corners of covers are bumped, worn and rounded, with the cloth frayed and missing along edges. Covers have edge wear. Second pages has a name and date of 1850 written on it. Some pages in middle of book are tanned. Some pages have spotting. Book is in fair condition. Small 8vo, 344 pages, 1.2 lb.; Small 8vo 7½" - 8" tall; 344 pages.

Externally a very good copy with minimal wear, short splits at bottom left edge and upper right and left edges of spine. Text very foxed. Nice tinted lithographic frontispiece of the occupation of the Mexican capitol by the American army. Numerous full-page portraits of figures on both sides and many other illustrations, both vignettes and full page. One signature a little proud (protruding), but binding firm. Text of treaty of friendship between the United States and Mexico at rear. Last twenty pages or so with circular water stain in upper free corner, including those pages on which the treaty appears.
