About this Item: Clarke & Co., Chicago, 1866. Three-Quarter Leather. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No DJ. First Edition. 1022 pp, several plates, unfortunately it is missing the frontis and title page. Other flaws include significant foxing of about 30 pages in front and rear of book. The leather is cracking at top of spine front and back about 2 inches each, also some at the bottom, pebbled cloth covers show typical wear, hinges are tight, binding good. Gifted to, and signed by owner T. W. Dent of Mason City, Iowa. Dent was born in 1846 in Oak Grove, Wisconsin. He enlisted at age 17 to Co. * 31st Wisconsin volunteer infantry. He was wounded in the battle of Bentonville, N.C. and was sent back to Wisconsin. He was, he stated, in all the engagements incident to the Atlanta campaign, Sherman's March to the Sea, and several battles while marching thorugh the Carolinas. ID# 7Ba.
