Checklist of 152 works exhibited, organized as follows: American Primitives (folk art), 1-18; Twentieth-Century American School, 19-70; French School, 19th and 20th Centuries, 71-93; Earlier Italian Paintings, 94-96; Ancient and Primitive Sculpture, 97-103; The Collection of The Hamilton Easter Field Foundation, 104-123; and Supplementary Exhibition of Drawings and Water Colors in the Robert and Mimi [Laurent] Art Collection, 124-152, with unsigned introductory essay on the collectors. One of the pioneer early American modernist sculptors, Robert Laurent, born in France, was befriended in his youth by Hamilton Easter Field, who was instrumental in bringing the young artist to America. Under Field¿s tutelage, Laurent developed into a connoisseur and collector of American folk art and modern European art. Hamilton died young, in 1920, leaving his entire estate to the Laurents, who moved to Ogunquit, Maine where Laurent took over Field¿s Art School and where the Field Foundation collection was established.
