This edition of the complete writings of Henry Fielding is limited to 375 numbered copies for Great Britain, of which 25 copies are printed on Dutch hand-made paper, with additional illustrations. This is Copy No. 100, signed by the publisher William Heinemann. Henry Fielding (22 April 1707 8 October 1754) was an English novelist and dramatist known for his rich earthy humour and satirical prowess, and as the author of the novel Tom Jones. Aside from his literary achievements, he has a significant place in the history of law-enforcement, having founded (with his half-brother John) what some have called London's first police force, the Bow Street Runners, using his authority as a magistrate. Condition: In red cloth bindings with gilt embellishment to the spines and front boards. Externally, sound with slight rubbing. Internally, binding is loosening in places. Front hinge has failed in volume I, and front end-papers are detached, but present. Front hinge has also failed on volumes II and VI. Front hinge is tender in volume X. Pages are generally bright and clean with some scattered light foxing. Overall: GOOD ONLY. Seller Inventory # 039644
