About this Item: Harper & Brothers, New York, New York, 1875. Condition: Good. First edition thus. Single volume--six issues bound without covers and advertisements. Small quarto, 9 3/4" tall, 928 pages, three-quarter leather over marbled boards. A good hard cover overall with significant exterior shelf wear, leather rubbed at all edges, fore-corner tips rubbed through to boards, front cover broken loose, leather back strip chipped away; internally clean, binding solid, paper light to moderately yellowed. This is the publisher's edition, printed from the original plates and includes all of the editorial material (articles, stories, poetry, etc.) of the separate issues but lacks the advertisements and individual covers. It was the practice of the time for most of the better literary magazines to issue such editions before melting down the original printers' plates. Note: ''Harper's Magazine' began publication in 1850 and recreated the American magazine, serving as a promotional vehicle for Harper and Brothers books as well as the new 'literary' fiction and essay of the time, using sophisticated illustration and the best authors. Subject matters range from art, fiction, and poetry to history and science. As such it makes a terrific read as an anthology of its moment in time. An excellent resource. Three-quarter leather over cloth. Seller Inventory # 43730

About this Item: 1945. Original wraps. Condition: Very Good -. A wonderful, significant piece of World War II history. A fragile booklet, a log, mapping out in detail the schedule and itinerary of this American battalion. SIGNED BY OVER 100 RETURNING SOLDIERS FROM THE BATTALION ( THE 733 F.A. BN, WHICH SET OUT FROM MISSISSIPPI IN LATE MARCH '44 AND SOME 7 1/2 MONTHS LATER --IN MID-NOVEMBER-- PENETRATED INTO GERMANY). This booklet has obviously travelled long and far but has held up nicely and is still very solid in its stapled, salmon-colored wrappers. Light creasing and a bit of inevitable wear are far outweighed by the miracle of these returning heroes (all 106 of them) signing their names and addresses on the "Memoranda" pages and the pastedowns of this very scarce logbook.
