About this Item: Random House, 1946. Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Aldren Watson (illustrator). 1st Edition. Miss Pennyfeather and the Pooka was written by Eileen O'Faolain and illustrated by Aldren Watson. The book was published by The Junior Literary Guild and Random House in 1946 and appears to be a First Edition but is not specifically stated as such. It's an ex-library copy and only in good condition with library markings, library wear including occasional soiling (very little in this book) where little hands may have not been completely clean when turning the page. I guess this indicates the book was popular . . . and does add a touch of nostalgia. It has no dust jacket. The book is 6" by 9 3/8" and has 154 pages with green-and-white illustrations and decorations throughout. "Garret and Julie were worried. Jerry didn't know the secret about Mickey Joe, his wonderful horse. But they did. Mickey Joe was a pooka, a fairy horse. And if he ever went back to the fairies, Jerry would be heartbroken." This is a somewhat rare book. It is definitely NOT pristine. It is, still, a quite readable nice copy that, apparently, is a sort of cult-classic in its own way. Thank you!. About this Item: Random House, New York, 1946. Hardbound. Green cloth boards with green illustrated DJ, [6] 154pp, 14 monochrome illustrations. From the jacket--The "pooka" was Mickey Joe, a wonderful white horse who belonged to a dear old lady named Miss Letitia Pennyfeather; and he was a pooka, as Garret and Julie found out, because he was really half a fairy. Mickey Joe loved the freedom of his earth home, where he was tenderly cared for by Miss Pennyfeather, her coachman, and the two children. But rival tribes of Fairyland claimed him as their own. One day he was lured away at Blarney and captured by the White Knight, who exercised him and trained him against his will for the Midsumer races in Fairyland. Those were gloomy days indeed for Mickey Joe and all who loved him; for upon the outcome of the races depended Mickey Joe's fate. Would he win or lose? Winning meant being able to return to his beloved earth home--losing meant life as a slave in Queen Cliona's gold mines. VG/Good, DJ is missing pieces at top, tearing around edges of DJ, boards have some wear to very ends of spine, book is otherwise in fine shape. Seller Inventory # 128717
