Item Description: G.P. Putnam's Sons New York and London ca, 1912. Blue moiré satin cloth, elaborately stamped in gilt. Spine a shade sunned, but a nice, bright copy. Inserted is an incomplete but substantial autograph letter from the author, signed, indignantly objecting to criticisms of her previous novel The Rosary made by the journalist Raymond Blathwayt and in particular to their inclusion in 'a notice which is otherwise so kind and appreciative'. A splendid letter, probably missing the first four pages, and ending, after the surviving eight pages of rebuttal, 'I never question criticism.' Apparently the first illustrated edition, with a copyright date of 1910 but listing her 1911 novel The Following of the Star. Bookseller Inventory # 7724
