Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Complexity science aims to better understand the processes of both natural and man-made systems which are composed of many interacting entities at different scales. A disaggregated approach is proposed for simulating electricity systems, by using agent-based models coupled to continuous ones. The approach can help in acquiring a better understanding of the operation of the system itself, e.g. on emergent phenomena or scale effects; as well as in the improvement and design of future smart grids.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Chemical reaction systems of practical interest are usually very complex: They consist of a large number of elementary reactions (hundreds or thou sands in a small system), mostly with rate coefficients differing by many orders of magnitude, which leads to serious stiffness, and they are often coupled with surface reaction steps and convective or diffusive processes. Thus, the derivation of a 'true' chemical mechanism can be extremely cumbersome. In most cases this is done by setting up 'reaction models' which are improved step by step using, for example, perturbation theory, numerical simulation and sensitivity analysis (and - hopefully, in the near future - parameter identification procedures), and by comparison with experimental data on sensitive properties. Because of the complexity of these processes, it was very difficult in the past to convince engineers to apply methods using detailed mecha nisms given in terms of elementary reactions, and even in basic sciences there was scepticism about this ambitious aim. A previous workshop on modelling of chemical reaction systems held in 1980 was an attempt to find a common language of mathematicians, chemists, and engineers working in this interdisciplinary area. Since then considerable progress has been made by the simultaneous development of applied mathematics, an enor mous increase of computer capacity, and the development of experimental techniques in physical chemistry that have made available well-working reaction mechanisms in some fields of reaction kinetics.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. This book provides readers with an overview of recent theories and methods for studying complex mechanical systems used in energy production. The emphasis is put on strategies for increasing energy efficiency, and on recent industrial applications. Topics cover: design, modeling and control of hybrid energy systems, dynamic behaviour of composites, structural vibration, multiphysics dynamic systems, fault diagnosis and robust design. Based on peer-review contributions and invited talks presented at the second International Workshop on MOdelling and Simulation of COmplex Systems for Sustainable Energy Efficiency, MOSCOSSEE 2024, held on November 2-3, 2024, in Matmata, Gabes, Tunisia, this book offers timely information on methods and tools for application in renewable energy production. It provides a valuable resource to both academics and professionals, and a bridge to facilitate communication between the two groups. The conference was organised by The LAboratory of Mechanics, Modelling and Production (LA2MP) at the National School of Engineers of Sfax from University of Sfax, Tunisia, the department of Mechanical Engineering at the National School of Engineers of Gabes from the University of Gabes and the Applied Research Unit for Renewable Energy, Water and the Environment from University of Nouakchott, Mauritania. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
