Collotype reproductions of 10 etchings by T. Otten after designs by Coypel. This collection of eleven letters and ten poems on cats first published 1727. Cat lovers initially made the original work a great success; however, later it became the object of satire and ridicule, and the author removed it from his collected works. "Les Chats", a collection of eleven letters and ten poems about cats, was first published in 1727. The book was an immediate success among cat lovers, but quickly became the subject of many cruel satires and skits, enough to cause the author to withdraw it from his collected works. Despite its wearisome history, it survived unbeaten and in its translation by Reginald Bretnor, can continue to delight the persistant ailurophile. "Coypel's designs were etched by de Caylus for the original edition, Paris 1727; the collotype reproductions for this new edition were taken from the copies which were executed by T.
